WAFF - Anchor/Reporter
Candidate must be a team player with a great attitude, possess a strong sense of ethics and integrity, and bring professionalism, personality, energy, confidence, and team spirit to our newscasts and our multi-platform newsroom. Must be a strong writer, deeply knowledgeable about all current events, and have quick and thoughtful news judgment. Must be capable of creating content from sources beyond wires and feed (ex. Social Media, Court Records, reliable online publications) and be eager to present the day’s news in an urgent and impactful manner.
The position requires an energetic personality who can connect with a large and engaged TV and online audience, and be able to recruit viewers and users to an already-strong news operation. In the newsroom, the position requires a dedicated journalist who loves to pitch and do great stories, as well as someone highly skilled at handling non-scripted reports on set and detailed information when reporting live on location news events. In the studio, candidate must be able to organize and deliver breaking news information for easiest consumption by the audience, bringing order to the chaos of breaking news reporting, producing the market’s best overall coverage on a consistent basis.
Must consistently generate and execute important and engaging story content in a contemporary and aggressive manner. Must have the excellent writing skills and be someone who knows the value of the present and future tenses in writing news stories, as well as the active voice, visual language, and audio/video connection.
All Anchor/Reporters must have strong grasp of producing and reporting in order to provide constructive feedback and coaching before, during, and after show. Looking for someone with "Scanner Ear", someone comfortable with consistently working from 3:00am to 11:30am, occasionally filling in on noon show, someone eager to engage with EP on the next morning’s news planning, including making calls and setting up interviews, and someone eager to go and cover news in the field after the morning newscasts conclude (one anchor does cut-ins and the other goes out, swapping duties either day by day or week by week.
Candidate must be or become proficient in ENPS, LUCI, Edius, Oasis/Bitcentral, VOD, Livelink, LiveU, Crowdtangle, Outlook, Police Scanners, Tagboard, Teleprompter operation, and Facebook Insights.
General Notes: 1. Candidate must be able to work long hours covering breaking news on the air, online, and on our 48 News & Weather Apps, including holidays and weekends. 2. Candidate must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. 3. Candidate must be able to both sit for long periods of time when required and stand for long periods of time when required. 4. There will be other duties as assigned from time to time.
