WBRC Fox6 has an opportunity for an experienced journalist who can do it all. We are looking for an Investigative Reporter/Weekend Anchor.

 

We're all about solution oriented and advocacy journalism; we want investigations that affect change and make a difference for our viewers. We are looking for an investigator who can seamlessly combine expertise in computer-assisted reporting skills and data-mining, with the ability to develop a wide network of human sources - plus a flair for compelling storytelling (both on-air and online). You will have the opportunity to work on not just long-range investigations, but also quick-turn investigations that deepen our coverage of the big story of the day.

 

The ideal candidate will also anchor Saturday and Sunday nights. Strong communication skills and news judgment are necessary. Candidate must be able to handle breaking news with ease, and quickly get up to speed on the big issues in this market. Strong writing and proofreading skills are a must.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Develop and maintain contacts and sources in the community to enterprise story ideas.

  • Identify and pitch investigative angles to big daily news stories.
  • Maintain an active social media presence to build your brand and solicit original story ideas.
  • Familiarity with IRE best practices.
  • Knowledge of the legal land mines pertaining to investigations and how to avoid them.
  • Strong knowledge of computer-assisted reporting, database, and spreadsheet programs.
  • A love of and passion for investigations.
  • Ability to attract and maintain audience with compelling broadcast performance.

  • Ability to perform well on-air during long form coverage and breaking news.

  • Leading candidates must have a proven track record on air and be passionate and engaged on social media. 

  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends with short notice.

  • Other duties as assigned and deemed necessary.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • 3+ years of experience working as an investigative reporter.

  • 2+ years of experience as an anchor.
  • Basic shooting and editing.
  • Must have the ability to handle various tasks simultaneously, organize, prioritize, make decisions, and work efficiently and effectively under deadlines.
  • Proven Track record of results from stories.
  • Bachelors degree preferred, preferably with emphasis on journalism and/or communications.

WBRC FOX6, WBRC.com and BOUNCE TV is seeking a highly experienced salesperson. We are looking for the right person – one with a minimum of 3-5 years media sales experience, rep firm experience is desired. The successful candidate will be motivated, detail oriented and someone that has dealt with advertising agencies or worked in the national spot TV business. This position would be dealing with many transactional television spot clients. The candidate must also be a great listener, able to build relationships thru phone and email and have a strong desire to help us maximize market share and spot revenue. In addition, the candidate should be highly organized, timely and a highly effective communicator.

 

The candidate must also have a working knowledge of digital advertising and the opportunities that advertising agencies would be interested in. Bachelor’s degree in marketing or business preferred.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Achieve monthly, quarterly and annual sales goals
  • Grow market share
  • Maintain strong working relationships with all clients
  • Represent a favorable station image
  • Accurately project and forecast activity of all accounts
  • Proficient at Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Experience in Matrix, Wide Orbit Traffic and Wide Orbit Media Sales preferred

The Success Manager is the key liaison between the client and {station Sales. They will manage all phases of the advertising campaigns, from research and planning to execution, optimization and analysis.
